The KL Industries 10-Foot Water Quest Kayak is a great little kayak for beginning and intermediate enthusiasts alike. It features a spray deflector collar, shock cord deck rigging, carry handles, and a deluxe padded seat. It also comes with a paddle, so you’re ready to head for the water as soon as it arrives!
The Water Quest is constructed of tough polyethylene plastic which is easy to keep clean and maintain with just soap, water, and the occasional polishing with an oil based polish such as furniture polish. It is a good idea to wash your kayak and dry it completely whenever you plan to travel with it. This cuts down on possible transfer of dangerous varieties of algae from one lake to another.
This kayak measures approximately 10 feet long, 30 inches wide, and 13″ tall. The “hold” allows room for a small amount of gear such as canned drinks, fishing tackle, etc. The Water Quest kayak weighs about 40 lbs, making it fairly easy for a single person to load and unload without assistance. I am female, 5’6″ and in my 40′s, and I load and unload my kayak easily myself. Carrying capacity (weight of gear PLUS weight of person) for this kayak is approximately 250 lbs.
This kayak is classified as a “sit-in” kayak, not a “sit upon” kayak. It is fairly stable as compared to many kayaks designed for more advanced enthusiasts. This would make a great kayak for tame stretches of river, lakes, or shallow bay waters. It does NOT come with a Personal Flotation Device (PFD)- you will have to purchase one separately. Most state laws require that all boaters wear a PFD for safety!
